CHILD SAFETY

Current regulations in Spain

Dear Customer,

When it comes to the safety of young children in vehicles, it is essential to comply with current regulations to ensure their protection.

In Spain, all children 1.35 meters or shorter are required to use an approved child restraint system (CRS) appropriate for their weight or height. The Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) and child road safety experts recommend the use of a CRS until the child reaches 150 centimeters in height.

Children must always travel in the rear seats of the vehicle, using the appropriate child restraint system (CRS). Children under 1.35 meters tall are only permitted to travel in the front seat if the vehicle only has two seats, if all the rear seats are occupied by other children using their CRSs, or if it is not possible to install a child seat in the rear.

Failure to properly seat children in approved car seats is considered a serious offense and may result in fines.

 Child Car Safety Guidelines

Rear-Facing Car Seats

•Age: Under 1 year, and ideally until 1-3 years (or until reaching the car seat's height/weight limit).

•Type: Infant-only seats (rear-facing only) or convertible/all-in-one seats (can be used rear-facing).

•Benefit: Best protection for infants and toddlers, especially for head, neck, and spine.

Forward-Facing Car Seats (with harness and tether)

•Age: 1-3 years (after outgrowing rear-facing) up to 4-7 years (or until reaching the car seat's height/weight limit).

•Transition: Once child outgrows rear-facing car seat.

Booster Seats

•Age: 4-7 years (after outgrowing forward-facing car seat) up to 8-12 years.

•Transition: Once child outgrows forward-facing car seat with harness.

•Requirement: Child must still ride in the back seat.

Seat Belts

•Age: 8-12 years (when big enough to fit properly).

•Proper Fit:

•Lap belt: Snugly across upper thighs, not stomach.

•Shoulder belt: Snugly across shoulder and chest, not neck or face.

•Position: Child should still ride in the back seat because it's safer.

General Guidelines

•All children younger than 13 years should ride in the back seat.

•Always use the appropriate car seat, booster seat, or seat belt for the child's age and size.

•Keep children in each stage (rear-facing, forward-facing, booster) as long as possible until they reach the maximum height or weight limit for that seat.

Sincerely,
